What is Hospital Compare?  Hospital Compare Overall Rating provides a “snapshot” of  up to 57 quality measures.  The Overall Rating ranges from one to five stars. The more stars, the better a hospital performed on the available quality measures; the most common Overall Rating is 3 stars.   In addition to Overall Rating, Hospital Compare provides information, for example,  on timely and effective care, complications, unplanned hospital visits, and patient satisfaction.  Information is updated at several times each year.

 

Why is Hospital Compare important to healthcare consumers?:  Information on quality performance helps consumers make decisions about where to get healthcare.  And, encourages hospitals to continuously improve care.  In an emergency, always get to the closest hospital.  When you have time to plan ahead you can discuss information on Hospital Compare with your healthcare providers.
